Inheritance tax ...

At no point have you ever answered the question.

Nothing wrong with different levels of pay and life. But a working person should earn a decent wage.

I don't see anything controversial in that.

Others like you obviously do. We've just had a referendum to stop low pay being an issue and here we are, some are actually promoting it.
You are completely right.

So, what's a decent wage, will we say the average UK wage, £36k? Ok, let's set that at the minimum for anyone working full time, regardless of their role. After all you say 'a working person should earn a decent wage' so that sorts that.

MMmmm, hold on a sec though. What about skilled workers already on the average wage? They've maybe studied etc to secure their role. Do we leave them earning £36k, the same as those we've uplifted from lower salaries?

No, that wouldn't be right. So let's uplift their salary to what? £45k? To differentiate them a bit from those doing lower skilled jobs.

Oh wait, what about those already earning £45k? So let's uplift their salary to £55k to differentiate them.

Oh wait, what about those already on £55k ...

Totally ignoring what I've said about just raising minimum wage.

Do you think you should be able to live on a wage or need benefits ?

And a decent wage for a decent weeks work would go a long way to making it better.

We could use a slogan. "Make work pay" maybe
I think the current minimum wage is more than a decent wage for an unskilled job.

That could be a great plan, dependent on where will they recover the lost tax revenue.

However, it's probably academic, as the conservatives aren't going to win the election.

I think he sees this as the big vote winner. Something which might turn the tables.

the UK has lower standards of living than many other countries

the reason is because too much wealth is held by the wealthy, they have been increasing their assets constantly over the last decade

So why cant the UK do better, other countries manage it

Im not sure your response of: "tough sh1t, thats life" answers that

living standards are too low in this country, but I dont see that minimum wage is the answer -the Labour left were pushing for £15/hr (which actually came from USA campaign to push Mcds to pay $15)

the problem with raising min wage is that many small businesses wouldnt be able to afford it, it would damage some sectors

but we do need to raise living standards somehow -possibly by tackling cost of housing

Its an easy out. Has no argument.

Avoids recognising that our levels have been better and that decent work should mean decent pay.

2010 to 2018 was a period of austerity, where the lower paid wages stagnated whilst the highest earners saw their wealth soar

then during the pandemic we say the wealthiest massively increase their assets

it is so bad now that we have around 4.8million in food poverty and 6 million in fuel poverty.

3 million renters dont have enough savings to cover a months rent and 12 million people have less than £1000 in savings

That means if people get ill and cant work, they have almost no safety net to stop them being homeless....thats pretty sh1t

Tough. Suck it up

Apparantly

But the vast majority don't. That's the whole point. You are victim blaming, again, those people you look down on for not being clever enough.
Nobody is looking down on them and nobody is victim blaming.

No child support. I don't know the reason.
If this is a real person. I would advise contacting the CSA. They will pull his income from tax records and make an assessment. He will have to pay otherwise they will seek an attachment order.

You have to pay until they finish secondary/further edication. Usually 18.

It’s roughly 20% per child up to a max of £1,281 per month 180k per year. If they earn above £180k then you can go to court to get extra if you can prove costs
