Putin, arse, elbow

Well lavrov stating that hitler was a Jew has just cropped up
Again

The Israelis are not best pleased with his assertion that the Holocaust was started by a Jew

and they are very up set

there may well be internal pressure for Israel to get off the fence over this Ukranian caper

all potentially down to lavrov failing to engage his brain and gob at the same time

It's just another crazy thing for Russia to say. The only mileage they have in that direction probably relates to the Azov brigade especially early on - they were branded as terrorists and the USA stopped helping them. Later it seems started again.

would allow him to pour more troops in.

do you believe that he has a huge, trained and equipped spare army, and thousands more tanks that actually work, sitting around doing nothing?

They had 13,000 tanks although that's probably including some rather old spare kit. The professional army is 400,000 strong and they have a huge half trained reserve.

If they decide to mobilize fully then a lot more people will die. The national line has been to emphasize the importance of de-nazifying Ukraine which implies that there will be an escalation.

Fins could well be fast tracked into nato

blimey they have 900000 reservists

swedes will sign up there after

Putin has now got another nato member on his border !

and thousands more tanks
They have so many in potential action and so many in reserve. The number of crews they have determines how many they can use in action.
There are unmanned vehicles about. Suppose at some point that might apply to tanks.

Barrels have shot lives and engines so much life as well.

The usual numbers on Russian forces go something like this

Russia’s military vastly outguns Ukraine’s, with a budget of between $40bn to $65bn.
These are its capabilities:

  • 900,000 active military personnel across land, sea and air
  • 280,000 soldiers
  • 165,000 air personnel
  • 150,000 naval troops
  • Around two million reservists.
Ukraine's army was stated as ~200,000 but as the country is under martial law anyone of fighting age may be used. Same source of the above says

According to the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS), Ukraine had 196,600 active military personnel when the invasion began on 24 February.

This split into:

  • 125,600 ground troops
  • 35,000 air personnel
  • 15,000 naval troops
  • Another 900,000 reservists
A lot of the fighting in the SE is put down to the Azov brigade and what might be called the Donbas brigade. Both could be seen as pre battle hardened as have been fighting on an off for a long time. The Azov are paramilitary so may not be included in the above. Appear to be paid for by an oly but pass. There were several groups early on now merged with them - or so it appears.

Gear - the same source says
Most of Ukraine’s firepower is land-based, with the country boasting more than 2,000 tanks, 1,960 artillery pieces and 2,870 armoured vehicles at the time of Russia’s invasion.

True but while they probably don't care so much about body bags as say the USA does this will probably put a limit on what they can attempt with ground troops,

There has been some typical fighting with Russian gains recently, Similar to getting nearer Kyiv. Ukraine defends a small place. First thing is shells, next comes mortars and then small arms fire. At this point Ukraine move to the next place. This reporter pointed out the different sounds as they were happening and found himself rather close to the shell stage so move away a bit. Fighting this way always puts the onus to attack on Russia. The reporter is now in an entirely different part of Ukraine. Here he reported something which may be new - rocket hits from 50km away and over current fighting line.

It's probably talks about Africa where both are involved. Russia not that clearly other than maybe arms. It appears France moved out of one country into an adjacent one. The man from the UN mentioned that currently up to 40,000,000 people may be on the move in the near future. Some may try to get to Europe. He went to talk about this situation as soon as he left Kyiv.

If he doesn't have enough 'regular' troops, he can simply conscript more teenagers from all over Russia.

The fact that they will simply be canon fodder is of no concern to him.
