Well, that went well didn’t it?

strawman argument

the difference is that the ultra rapid sentencing occured whilst the riots were still being organised around the country

did the riots stop?
A = yes they did
Strawman argument? I don't understand your thinking.

How can it work for one group of criminals but not another. Tell me how that works.

As for the riots. They may have simply run out of steam as they have in the past.

its not rocket science
it is to you

all we have done for decades is to have increasingly shorter sentences
It would help you if you formed your opinions with facts.

sentences have got longer not shorter

"Taking in all criminals who receive custodial terms, there has been one clear trend over the past decade: sentences have got longer.
In 2012, the average prison sentence stood at a year and six weeks. As of 2023, the average prisoner is sent away for a year and nine months."

so sentences have got longer.............so using your logic, crime must have gone down:

"The UK is 11 per cent less peaceful than a decade ago, driven by increases in reported violent crime, weapons crime, and public disorder offences. The reported violent crime rate has risen by more than a third in the last decade, exceeding 1,200 crimes per 100,000 people on average across the UK."

put up taxes and build more prisons
The £20b NI tax cut would have paid for a number of them with change. The 50% reduction in sentence time is nothing like a new idea,

Some people can't join up facts. The party they support are wonderful etc when in the Tory case they most definitely aren't.

All this when taxation is at record levels.

riots are public unrest which can spread rapidly

very different from day to day criminality

we haven't tried those!
all we have done for decades is to have increasingly shorter sentences and the more lenient and more understanding we become the greater the rise in crime., its not rocket science

perfect example, no one on the right will be rioting any time soon. We need to do the same for shoplifting, knife crime and traffic offences.

only problem is, we would have to release all the rioters to lock up the shoplifters, then release all the shoplifters to lock up the speeding and mobile phone obsessed drivers.

The justice system in this country is corrupt from top to bottom. More so if it can act swiftly to deal with 1 group of criminals while delay dealing with others.

A judge might say the sentence of this court is one of 5 years and 7 months........... of which you will serve 30 months in prison.
The system sends that criminal to closed prison for 6 months and then unto an open prison for the remainder of their sentence.

Who learns a lesson from this justice system experience. The criminal or the victims family.

It's not that it's corrupt.

It's the result of years of underfunding , less staff and rehabilitation systems

There are sentencing guidelines to follow for all offences.

Like everything else with our infrastructure it needs vision, time and money to get back into the position it should be

The real faults lye with the constant underfunding to "lower taxes", not improve society.

because they are not handing out custodial sentences for many of the lesser crimes - just the more serious ones - that is why you are being hoodwinked into thinking sentences have got longer. It is clearly too complicated for you

Because of a lack of prisons and staff. the result of massive repeated underfunding.

It's clearly too complicated for you. And your bias

It is absolutely corrupt. It no longer administers justice as was intended.
Take yourself to the Old Baily or the Royal Courts of Justice and see the nonsense carved into the stones of those places.

Whether lack of funding has led to that is another matter.

An example of corruption then please.

What sentencing guidelines are not followed?

What do you think is the primary purpose of any justice system. Answer that and you will have answered your own question.

As for sentencing guidelines. They are political f uckery. (not necessarily carried out by politicians)

I'm out to work now.

So you have no examples of corruption, thought not.

You, and I, may not agree with the guidelines, but if they are followed, it is not corruption
