You’d be amazed.
lots of equipment that is given out to the elderly, like walking frames, perching stools, crutches etc etc are simply thrown away -even if they've hardly been used.

But then the cost of recovery, cleaning and restocking are probably higher than the cost of the item, I guess

Thats true, when I had my hips done I was given, toilet seat, a high stool, grabbers, and crutches, OT said just keep them or bin them, its was too much trouble to sterilise and check them for re issue, they took the crutches back though, there was a cage full at the hospital reception

For some of them it's validating that they're still fit for use and aren't knackered.

In our area perching stools, frames and most other assistive kit is reused. There were a few bits that were disposable, for good reason (stuff too close to bodily fluids), but almost entirely reused. I had an in-law who went through a rather nasty condition not long ago and ended up helping sort out the kit and returning it.

Could all this not be given to the 3rd world?

I understand transportation would be an issue because of cost

China reported nearly 1,300 new deaths yesterday. Apparently they’d been miscounting. Who’d have thought they were under reporting.

Yup, on the other hand I'm not sure we should be throwing any stones as we're likely to be adding far more deaths to our revised totals.

Yep - its impossible to compare data from country to country. France reported 17k new cases yesterday, and apparently does less testing than we do. The only thing we really have to go on is deaths from reliable sources. Again it doesn't matter what the criteria is (within reason) as long as it consistently applied.

My dad had just had delivered crutches, commode and a walking frame before he went back in hospital and died. The frame and commode had not been used and were still wrapped. I phoned up and they didn’t want them back. We took them to the local charity shop. They had loads of 'em.

According to this page
https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/#countries
No lab confirmed cases in England past the 15th. On the 15th there was a total of 79,489. Total UK wide on the 16th is 103,094 case so 26,605 out of England. So Wales, Scot... etc

Then UK confirmed cases on the 16th was 4,618

The page also has the info in comma separated form. Loads into Libre Calc easily.

Not had much luck looking at Scotland's figures. Reporting entirely different. Could be wrong but hard to see how it fits in with the 26,605. Wales's info is even worse, hardly any of it.

I know its a crazy system -Ive had quite a few examples of this in recent years -there is no system set up to take back these items -if they do collect them they put them in a skip.

my MIL has a brand new electric profiling hospital bed and nobody has asked for it back. She isnt rushing to tell anybody as she doesnt want anybody in the house at the moment.
