Big Numbers today

if people develop a fear of infection, it can cause breakdown in society much greater than a small percentage of deaths. Imagine gangs of hungry plumbers roaming the streets, looting shops and robbing houses.

Some rural communities already consider outsiders to be dangerous and unwelcome. It wouldn't take much for them to man the barricades with their pitchforks.
I suspect many are just enjoying having their villages for themselves for a while, any excuse to keep the hoards away! - My mother lives in a seaside village largely destroyed by tourism (60% of the homes are now either selfish homes or holiday lets) The locals are loving the peace and tranquillity of the lock-down. (apparently that tranquillity has been lost this weekend as things are getting back to normal)

There are quite a few signs up telling people not to stop in "our" village or come here for exercise.

You dont need one showpiece mass event, when you have tens of thousands of smaller, unofficial gatherings across the country.
My first - born is currently working in Birmingham (rendering), and says that social distancing is non - existent in the area around the site.
People of all ages are just carrying on as normal.

Load of crap. Traffic is trivial and people are just buying food etc and exercising. So just which part of B'ham is he in? Traffic has increased a bit since the end of the previous lock down. On the other hand the daily brief lady mentioned that it has all over so the police may start looking at that as it's drifting up. They already are in some areas.

B'ham has been getting similar results to Wales accounting for population. 3m people in wales 8,601 cases, B'ham 1m people 2552 cases, so better of late. Infections will have spread more quickly but maybe not due to Wales's concentration on the south coast and others elsewhere.

The QE death figures are higher than other hospitals in B'ham but it's also rather larger so hard to compare. 650 have died there which is high for the number of cases. Normally serious cases are sent there from the midlands in general probably not at the moment but maybe if others are out of beds.

You really are a bell end, you don't even know where he was working, yet dismissed his observations anyway.

Erdington, if you must know. Groups of kids, through teenagers, to young adults, just hanging around together in the streets.

And certainly around here, traffic has gone from basically non - existent a fortnight ago , to close on normal level , at times.

Looking at the actual day people died, tells a different story.

I asked where. Local news say some of the usual sillies - have a party, a group playing some sport in a park but little else. The police have issued 1084 fines in Bham. They can be seen driving around looking for groups all over the place. 1084 for 1m people how does your area compare? Eardington is an odd sort of place for people to hang around in. The shopping area is concentrated but apart from that it's all back streets. Not sure how many parks it has - bound to have one a least.

The same article mentions a baptism on a lake in Kingshurst! ;) I grew up there. It's an overspill estate and wasn't part of B'ham, probably still isn't. They also wiped out a lot of green belt around it - Chelmsley Wood. It shouldn't be on a page about B'ham.

I live on a B'ham B road that carries a fair amount of traffic on the South side. Earlier I could usually just go out and walk across it. Recently odd blocks of traffic pass both ways. It's quiet again now but could be due to Sunday. More white vans about now and some one around the corner had a new roof fitted. Little else going on. Well spaced queues at the local shops. I almost live on the old B'ham ring road - the infamous No 11 bus route. That's quiet too. 2 close main arteries out of B'ham. The one I have used is dead quiet.

That one got me for a while until I checked "todays figure" after it had shifted across.

They have mentioned that actually in hospital has reduced by 10%, less the week before. Then there is the hospital entry chart I posted - updated weekly on Thursday.

To be honest I have wondered if care has been limited in England but part of that is down to my feelings about areas of the UK who want independence and get more £ per head of population than England does. Do they for instance get better health care as well as the other perks. Rant - they get billions from tourism as well but don't want us. Mind you some of them are beginning to worry about that aspect.

LOL Afraid I don't like nationalism. It just leads to trouble.

In fairness, you said it was "a load of crap ".

And I did say "in the streets".

Funny - Staffordshire reported as have issued 1084 fines as well. Some for other reasons than B'ham but same problems mentioned. Actually there are several places around here not far away where lots walk. Usually the hills but there are also other routes, canals, tracks, linked up parks - well one lot around me. We get a lot of tourism from visitors to the midlands eg Stratford etc.

Maybe police instructed to issue 1000 or so to show that they are about and mean business. They do this sort of thing with a number of rules rather than crimes.

Just went for my walk. Saw 8 people, one had been shopping and one group was a family. More cars and virtually all had just one person in them. No trades as Sunday.

Why is it so difficult for us to add other COVID deaths to the "hospital" figure when other countries seem to manage it?

As has already been posted on another thread, the lockdown is becoming less well observed, day on day.
For some, there are only a certain number of days that they'll tolerate.

Start a lockdown earlier, people will stop observing it earlier. It's a balancing act.

Two weeks ago, bugger all driving up and down the a road outside. Now, almost back to "normal '.

At this trajectory, I would expect some big numbers in the next few weeks.

The opposite has happened in some countries that have relaxed their lockdowns. When Austria allowed certain non essential businesses to open recently, many found it not worth opening because no one was coming out. Certain societies appear to be more sensible than ours.

The only source of info is death certificates and they take time to work their way through and the gp that does it needs to state covid. There are rather strong rumours that GP's are inclined to put something else especially in care homes etc so figures when they arrive are very likely to be distorted,

Only info
Information on residential location is pending for 4,206 cases and 1,429 deaths

They are interested in hard data - hospital associated information is as all have been tested. Where negative they have also confirmed it in other ways when symptoms are obvious.
