In the 1970's or later?
Much earlier than that! 1700s? Tens of thousands of women killed for no reason other than they refused to believe in the church's religion. Well, some were killed for political reasons, others for their money.

Might actually be that most were killed for money - some were definitely killed to get their land in America, and some reports that English women were accused of witchcraft after their husbands died, and they became owner of the property and land.

Wasn't replying to that, but the general comment that Catholics don't tend to kill people, and considered safer.
You can't just say "oh, it was a long time ago", because it really wasn't all that long ago.

Catholics are still killing people in NI...

As are the protestants...

We can speculate on the motives of these killings in Nottingham, but if it is a mental health issue then apparently more police forces are going to turn a blind eye until a crime has actually been committed...

As opposed to their approach as regards any form of protest where they are told to arrest anyone that they believe may well be involved in peaceful opposition without any proof whatsoever...

The 17th century would be more accurate; by the mid 18th century they'd become very rare.
King James IV was the witch killer in this country; mostly on the grounds of religion. Germany, i think, had the highest number of deaths, mostly by fire. In this country we preferred to hang 'em high, though occasionally the village would pile stones upon them as a sort of community activity.

It's not the police's role to deal with mental health problems in the community, that would be social care.
The police can only mop up the mess left by the failings of the government to support social care.

With immigration said to be on target (it does appear there's a target) to hit 700,000 this year, it's not just the small boats that need sorting. We'll know very little about the others who come here - waved through by soft touch immigration. You would want to know exactly who you're admitting into your house. Should be the same for this country, for the safety and security of the indigenous population.
Although there are many things the government needs to tighten up on around this, no matter how robust the system, it can never be full-proof. For example, we could let 100 people in that have gone through robust checks and they all meet the requirements. Then, x years later, one of them could go off the rails perhaps in quite a dramatic way. I'll reiterate, I am not excusing the way things currently are, it's a mess. However my assertion is even with better checks, people can go off the rails at any point in their life.

As I've said before, if even half the stuff is true re future climate changes, coupled with ongoing conflicts around the world, migration numbers are only going one way and it's not downwards. Various countries including the UK are going to have to get to grips with MANY more people wanting in.
