There is no such thing as "two tier policing"

Interesting in the Evening Standard that a judge has asked for tougher charges.

The words of Judge John Thackray KC, the Recorder of Hull, came after a three-year prison term was handed to Connor Whiteley, who kicked a female police officer to the ground during riots in the Yorkshire city.

Whiteley, 26, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker, after playing a “prominent role” in the “racist, hate-fuelled mob violence” that unfolded in the city on August 3.

Hull Crown Court heard he was at the front of a group confronting police who were trying to protect a hotel known to house asylum seekers, and was seen charging at officers.

Whiteley was also part of a group that targeted a garage, setting cars alight and threatening staff, who were forced to lock themselves inside.

Sentencing him on Wednesday, the judge said: “The prosecution do need to look, for those who are playing front and central roles, at the alternative charge of riot rather than violent disorder.”

It's a reflection a how serious the situation is and why they are trying to nip it in the bud. Sir Keir's experience in this has definitely helped along with the fast track convictions.
Yep, been quite impressive. Mind you, the likes of Farage, Yaxley-Lennon, Hopkins et al are horrified at these decent salt of the earth people being charged.

You clearly are somewhat exorcised / intrigued / bothered by the fact: if you had no feelings either way about the fact, you wouldn't be posting about it.

And the fact that you are repeatedly posting about it, led me to my - not unreasonable - conclusion (y)

While there is nothing new about fast tracking guilty pleas, there is a real risk of a miscarriage of justice.
There's a bigger chance of more rioting if fast tracking didn't happen.

Surely if you're innocent you would say so. But lots of filmed evidence.

Don't knock efficient law and order. The country needs it, and more prison spaces

You are suggesting that twelve+ rioters rioting, can arbitrarily say in court, that they were not actually rioting? Even if they were? Surely that is the job of the counsel, the jury and the judge to decide?
If it was down to the rioters, then it probably happens at most football matches, every week

the definition of a riot is defined in law, sec 1 Public Order Act.
If 12 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence for a common purpose and the conduct of them (taken together) is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety, each of the persons using unlawful violence for the common purpose is guilty of riot.

Hence it is the rioters that decide to riot.
The definition of a riot is part objective (i.e. the 12 + people), but the rest of it is subjective.
Who decides, and designates the event as a riot?
The subjective parts are open to individual interpretation.

More progress today.

"A number of people appearing in courts across England and Wales on Thursday following widespread riots.

Among those cases were:

"Violent racist" Joseph Ley, who punched and kicked a black man in the face during a riot in Manchester, jailed for three years and two months

Luke Moran, caught on a police-worn camera in Southport battering a van as officers were trapped inside, left "fearing for their lives"

Noman Ahmed, 24, jailed for 14 months after throwing a punch while trying to protect a Middlesbrough mosque

A self-styled paedophile hunter jailed for eight months after admitting racially abusing pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Leeds

In London, a Hatton Garden jeweller was jailed for eight months for racially aggravated public order offences near Downing Street

In Wales, a plasterer from Flintshire who admitted to stirring up racial hatred on Facebook was sentenced to 21 months

It comes as the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says a total of 413 people have been charged in relation to the recent public disorder, following the fatal stabbings of three young girls in Southport"

I am not attacking you: I am explaining my position.
You made your assumption about why I was posting.
You're entitled to have an opinion, but when it's written in the style that you used, it becomes an ad hominem attack, not a discussion about the issue.

You complain about it then spend most of your time doing it.
Go away.
Another that has no desire to discuss the issues.
You just need the opportunity to express your opinion of me. Nothing more, nothing less.
Sorry to deflate your ego, but your opinion of me is of little concern of mine.

When you want to discuss the issues, do let me know.
