Tory Leadership Race

I'm citing the reason wealthy people are taking steps to protect their families. It's documented in the article I linked to already. They fear changes, they are taking advice from experts, those experts have an ear to the ground.

The first thing the government needs to recognise is that the wealthy are mobile. We attract them to invest in the UK by offering the things they like. But when we change the rules, they leave and there are consequences for those who remain. Particularly those who pay taxes or use services.

You don't need to be a genius to see, that if you take away 10% of those that pay 1/3rd of all income tax, you have a problem.
You dont need to be a genius to know that decades of Tory power has led to massive levels of inequality............because the Tory party exists to transfer ensure the wealthy grow their wealth

guess what:

The UK's lowest income households are 20% poorer than their equivalent in France

So something needs to be done

Since it was known that Labour would likely win the election and had plans to attack the wealthy. its doubled.
Yet Starmer makes the point he is not concerned about wealth. He doesn't see any problems with it.
The budget will give a clearer view on the areas that concern you.

Labour's policy is nothing like anything we have experienced before in several areas. The larger money sources do see sense in Reeves's general idea. If enough sense - time will tell. How it will effect us in general in many respects needs the budget even those that choose to leave.

Then comes how much money gets actually invested here. You my recollect Boris said billions waiting to come in. It didn't. The same may happen again.

While Labour has committed to holding the rate of income tax, national insurance and VAT, the party has failed to rule out a lift in the rate of capital gains tax.

Also no increase in corporation tax. It does sound like they will interfere with the gig economy and similar.

Capital gains. City style or other? Very much a wait and see. City aspects may result in some relaxations as listings are drifting elsewhere.

I've already posted a link with lots of additional research https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/tory-leadership-race.635711/post-5829189
That's from a survey of non-doms in response to the tax changes planned by the Tories in the last government. They're already half way out the door anyway as non-doms and/or recent immigrants. They're also a very unrepresentative group of non-doms with an average income of £21 million a year instead of 370k

It also says that if only 7% decamp permanently, HMRC will be about £1 billion a year better off.

Adding a zero doesn’t change the fundamental problem

However it is highly relevant to the significance of inheritance tax.

The average person will not receive a million-pound inheritance. Those who do have usually inherited a house, and it is very common for tax to be deferred until it is sold.

The person who inherits a multi-million pound business is the person you are talking about.

He will not gather much agreement if he claims that his windfall has made him poorer.
