Two Tier Keir Strikes Again

'Labour has refused to back new laws proposed by the Tories to overrule “two-tier justice” rules issued by the Sentencing Council.'

I would imagine that the government legislation, properly drafted by government lawyers, will do a much more effective job than whatever Jenrick has cobbled together.

If indeed legislation is drafted. I mean, she is saying she will legislate if needs be but is she really invested in doing so... time will tell.

You just like arguing for arguments sake. Don't be a coward mate, if you don't like what the Telegraph or Robert Jenrick said, get yourself on X and post your ramblings on there to them directly.
Arguing for argument's sake?

So if I repeat a load of rubbish, you won't call me out on it?

Course you fukin will, and so did he when you did it.

Right. So you've resurrected a post addressed to another poster, not yourself, from the 6th March, a week ago, which has nothing to do with you nor anything to do with the topic. I'm not going to bother with you mate, you're trying to cause unnecessary trouble.

You're always doing that. You answer posts I make to other people. Why can't I?

What you are saying is that you can't have a proper discussion about people calling you out for repeating rubbish.

You just get annoyed and label those people troublemakers.

As for not bothering with me, well, I consider myself a fairly easy-going guy who likes to get on with everyone.
But that's your choice.

You are trolling. Either stick to the topic of this thread or disappear.

Looks like the government want to sweep it under the rug and pretend WOKE ism, hasn't just infiltrated criminal justice.

I'm trolling now?

That's a first!

In all the years I have been here, that is literally a first!

All I did was call you out for repeating rubbish!

If you can't cope with that, you have the wrong forum.

You're not even sticking to the topic of the thread, as this is nowt to do with Starmer.

This sentencing guidance will be activated on April 1st and so far I cannot see real intervention in terms of action from Shabana Mahmood which backs up her verbal stance. There are 19 days left. The clock is ticking.

The plan seems to be to meet the the judges this week in a final attempt to get them to back down. If not, the government will legislate. That is how I interpreted it, anyway. They seem to have been blindsided a bit by inheriting a policy signed off by the previous lot.

The problem is that she and the government need to change the law in order to stop these guidelines going live, as I understand it. With only 19 days to go, is that even a possibility? If she does indeed decide to legislate I feel it may be after the fact. Perhaps they will repeal it once it comes into force.

Mahmood is meeting Sir Bill today.

There is always the chance that we may end up with some fudge instead!

'On Thursday, the Sentencing Council - which is independent but sponsored by the government - said it would look at her objections in detail, but did not commit to reversing course immediately.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said the justice secretary held a "constructive meeting" with Sentencing Council leaders on Thursday, after which Mahmood said she would "set out her position more fully" in a letter.

The sentencing council agreed to "consider" the letter "before the guideline is due to come into effect" from April.

A review of the council's role and powers is set to take place alongside the existing review into sentencing being led by former Tory minister David Gauke.'
